MATTE MODERNIST FLOWER EARRINGS (PANOT BARCELONA)

Earrings in the shape of a modernist flower from Barcelona, a Barcelona panot. The clasp is a press-stud fastening and they are sold in pairs.

Available in 925 sterling silver with matte finish. Measure 8 mm wide by 8 mm high. Thickness is 0.9 mm.

The iconic Flor de Barcelona (panot) tile was first documented in 1906 when the Barcelona City Council decided to hold a public competition to pave the city's streets and put an end to the mud in them. Five models of hydraulic cement tiles were chosen, including the well-known flower. Until recently the design was attributed to the modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch because of its resemblance to the tiles at the entrance to Casa Amatller (Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona), but studies in 2013 confirmed that it was not the same design.
